If you live to be 100 years old, you will have 1,200 months to live in total
How much time and energy are you spending doing the things that matter?
Have I sufficiently alarmed you with that title ?
I’m currently reading Kristine Karlsson’s book Your Dream Life Starts Here as part of her GROW book club. It’s a great book.
But then I read this scary reality that she shared.
If you live to be 100 years old, you will have 1,200 months to live in total. For me at 53 that’s kind of terrifying - that means in best case scenarios I have 564 months left of living to do.
😳😳😳
The equation she gives you in the book - 100 years old minus my age today _____ = _____ x 12 = _____ months ahead for me!
And to be honest I debated sharing this - because while we all know our time is short, it can still be confronting when you write down the numbers. Regardless, it doesn’t change the reality that we’re all living on borrowed time.

And then in the book she reminds us “The undeniable fact is we will all die at some point, so my recommendation is to accept the truth and let it inspire us to make the most of this one precious life we all have.”
And this quote…
The time will pass anyway. You can either spend it creating the life you want, or spend it living the life you don’t want. The choice is yours. – Anon.
After our online class last night, feeling inspired I asked the following questions of my friends on my Facebook page
Question - if you were to spend more of your time and energy doing the things that bring you joy and meaning?
✅ What would you be doing more of?
🛑 What would you be doing less of?
No cheating and just liking this post - writing it down is the first step, besides I’d really like to know.
I got some great responses.
One of my friends wrote a list of things she wants to do, but then finished by saying she probably wouldn’t do much of it because there’s too many things.
And my comment back to her turned out to be just the guidance I needed to write (and absorb myself)
What if I take one thing each day that I want to do more of and do it for 10-30 minutes. No more than that, start small.
✏️ I spend 10-30 minutes writing my next book
And then the next day I choose another thing on my list and do it for 10-30 minutes.
❓ I spend 10-30 minutes learning something new - a mini course, a quiz, a webinar
And the next day
🍀 I walk in nature for half an hour
And I continue doing something each day from my list.
By the end of the week I’ve done up to 3.5 hours of stuff that move me closer towards my dream life.
The truth is we make time for the things that matter to us and if you’re not making time, then is it really as important as you say it is.
The only thing we can’t get more of is time…so how are you spending yours and what would you like to be doing more of.
Kristina advises that we should all be writing it down, which is something I’ve loosely done but I’m now really committing to creating my dream life and I’ll start doing it 10-30 minutes a day.
After all, if at best, I’ve got 564 months left then every minute suddenly becomes incredibly valuable.
Keep smiling (and making every minute count) Fi 🌻
